Why Cockroaches Come Back After You Spray (And How to Stop It)

You sprayed. The cockroaches died. Two weeks later, they’re back.

Sound familiar? It’s the most common frustration we hear about cockroach pest control. And it’s not because you bought the wrong spray. It’s because of how cockroaches breed.

Why a once-off spray doesn’t work

A spray kills the cockroaches it touches. That’s it.

It doesn’t kill the eggs.

Cockroaches carry their eggs in a hard protective case called an ootheca. This case is tough. It resists insecticide far better than an adult cockroach does. One egg case can hold over a dozen eggs. And one female can lay several cases in her lifetime.

Those eggs sit hidden in cracks, behind your fridge, and inside your walls. The spray never reaches them.

A few weeks later, they hatch. A whole new generation appears — right when your once-off treatment has worn off.

There’s another problem. If you keep using the same shop-bought spray, cockroaches can build up resistance to it. The more you spray, the less it works.

How do you get rid of cockroaches for good?

You break the breeding cycle. That’s what monthly treatment does.

Instead of one big knockdown, treatment is repeated on a schedule. Each visit hits the new generation before it can breed. The roaches never get a chance to rebuild their numbers.

Monthly visits also mean the treatment adapts to your property. If activity shows up in your kitchen, a service duct, or a waste area — that spot gets targeted directly. Not the same generic spray everywhere, every time.

What a monthly programme includes

An initial inspection. We find the entry points, the hiding spots, and the species involved. Different species need different treatment.

A proper treatment plan. We use professional-grade products you can’t buy over the counter. We apply them where cockroaches live and travel — not just where you’ve seen them.

Monthly visits. We track activity over time, so you can see the problem shrinking. Not just guess.

We’ll be honest with you: this is a programme, not a one-time fix. A single visit can knock back what you see. But the breeding cycle is still there underneath. And it will produce another generation.

The two-week follow-up

Here’s where many pest control companies cut corners. They treat, and they move on.

We don’t. Every treatment includes a follow-up visit two weeks later.

We check that the treatment is holding. We check that activity has dropped where we targeted. And we adjust anything that needs adjusting before the next visit.

It’s a small step. But it’s the difference between treating a symptom and actually solving the problem.
